Basics

Our address is 196A High Street, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 3HZ.
Our phone number is 01483 571178.

Our studio hours are from 9am to 6pm. We aim to go for lunch around 1pm everyday for an hour. Generally we try to sit upstairs to get away from our desks.

Come join us!

Phones and buzzers

Door buzzer

If you are sitting near the door entry phone, feel free to let people into the studio – pick up the handset off the wall with a “Hello, Orangery” and press the middle button. It’s good to either let the person who they are here to see know they are on their way up or do a general ‘shout out’. If it is a courier please be ready to meet them at the door to hand over an item or sign for something.

Phones

The same with our phones, a simple “Hello, Orangery” is good, and a non-committal “I’ll just see if they are available” works well. You can mute the phone while finding out if someone is available. There is a phone upstairs and downstairs. We try to keep them in their chargers so they are easy to find when they ring (and so they don’t go flat).

What makes us special

At Orangery we work to create thoughtful branding.

Thoughtful brands are just that – full of thought and thinking. This is because nothing we do at Orangery is a coincidence. Everything has a reason and has been thought through, researched, audited and tested. Which is why we describe ourselves as a strategic design agency. But the thoughtful purpose also means being considerate when we deal with our clients, colleagues, the work we deliver and towards our own values and needs.

Makes sense – if you think about it…

Our culture

Orangery is a small agency and as such we don’t have a management hierarchy. Everybody is hands-on, pragmatic and self motivated and we are team players who get stuck in to make projects and therefore our business a success.

So be yourself when you are in the studio as well as with our clients. Let us see your geeky side and what matters to you. It is much easier if we only have to keep track of one personality. Obviously we expect you to be thoughtful and considerate, but we can only assume that you are if you are reading this guide now. In any case, we have room for all sorts and welcome diversity in every shape and form.

A lifestyle agency

Orangery was set up with the principle that it had to be a lifestyle agency that would attract talents of people who all love what they do and just happen to call it work. We work hard to keep it that way by having a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Tea (or coffee) time

Just in case you fancy putting the kettle on:

Simon: Tea or coffee with milk
Steph: We’re working on her to drink more(!) Normally Tea with milk, or hot chocolate
Steve: Tea with milk
Elaine: Tea or coffee with milk
Will: Tea with milk
Jack: Works from home but drinks Tea or coffee without milk

Disclaimer: it’s very rare for anyone to turn down a tea or coffee, but making hot drinks is guaranteed to make you very popular!

Office admin

Most supplies such as pens, scalpel blades, tape etc can be found in the small grey drawers in the cutting area.

Paper, envelopes, printer toner, recycling bags and water are in the storage area at the back of the studio. Most kitchen supplies can be found in the cupboard next to the fridge or under the sink. If you use the last of something, let someone know so we can order more.

To help us keep the studio looking good, please:

  • Keep your desk area tidy.
  • Put coats on a hook near the toilet, not on the back of your chair.
  • Try to keep your bag under your desk if possible.
  • Put empty mugs, plates etc in the kitchen.
  • After lunch, please make sure all rubbish is put in the bin.
  • Try to remember what you have in the fridge and use up perishables. Out of date/mouldy food will be thrown away.
  • Grey bags are for general rubbish, blue bags are for mixed recycling — please rinse any food packaging before recycling.
  • If the bin bags are full, please take them out and leave them ready to put outside the front door. Grey bags can go out after 4pm all week, blue bags only on Thursdays after 4pm. Spare bags are in the cupboard under the sink.
  • If you need to order more bin bags, they can be ordered via the Guildford Council website using our login and password which can be found under OnePassword. The estimated time of delivery is 5 working days.
  • Clear up after yourself around the cutting mat.

Fire!

If the fire alarm goes off at any other time please leave the building by the nearest route and go to our meeting point in front of Norfolk House across the street from the Orangery entrance.

Should you discover a fire, call the fire service on 999 and give our address. Don’t attempt to put the fire out unless you know you can do so safely. Fire extinguishers and alarm points are located in the studio and upstairs.

First aid

We have a first aid kit in the cupboard under to the coffee machine in the kitchen. If you are injured or feeling ill, please let someone know. If you injure yourself at Orangery, please let us know what happened so we can make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Time sheets

It really important that we log our hours in harvest on a daily basis. It means they are accurate so its fair to the client how much time we spend on each job. Trying to remember what you did last week isn’t the way we work. Please remember to cover all hours even with internal jobs.

Weekly planning

We do our weekly studio planning on a Friday afternoon so we are ready for the next week. This is when we discuss who’s doing what the following week and any significant meetings, deadlines or events that are coming up.

Production meeting are shorter and happen on Mondays and Fridays @ 9:15. For these meeting everyone should have their list of jobs and highlight any issues or flag if they are light on work.
